Self-assessment is a form of performance review which landlords use to look at their services. It measures services against agreed standards. It tells organisations what their service strengths are and identifies and supports improvements to service weaknesses. Self-assessment can be used to measure the customer experience as well as business and leadership structures. It should deliver a clear assessment of services strengths and weaknesses and suggest ways for improvements to be made.
When used frequently, self-assessment can help people gain confidence about measuring performance and help reduce the fear that assessments are only carried out because something is wrong with the service.
When the organisation has completed their assessment, they might ask other colleagues and/or service users to look at the service to get another view. This is called a peer audit. A peer audit is meant to be supportive.
